Again, as more data arrives, I'll update the page. All further diddling with the roller will eventually end up here. Waiting on some neck turning advise.

If I can get advise, permission, or whatever to put stickies on my profile page, I'll do so. That way the involved stuff will be up top.

I'm starting to develop loads for my second .43 Spanish, a carbine. My goal is to get a load that will hit point of aim with the settings of the sights.

I'm starting to develop loads for my second .43 Spanish, a carbine.

Is that a lighter load or shorter case or yes... Using .439 soft boolits?

Full length case, as cast Lyman boolit that after sitting a week or two sizes out to .441. Load using right now is 30.0 grains of 4198. I'm sure its a slow load.

Greetings
My first 43 Spanish Roller was a real test of desire and whether or not it could ever shoot straight. Horrible fat throated. .443+ groove. I had Bertram brass (purchased back about 1984). These cases were registered to the chamber upon second firing with a file mark at 12 o'clock. The only way to get a fat enough cast into the chamber neck was to neck turn the brass. The other solution was to be paper patch the exposed boolit which I decided was not for me.
So one evening I was off to a very helpful Sharps shooter's house to use his lathe. Dan found a hardened steel rod to use as the case mouth guide for the brass and we chucked up the first case. In just a few seconds .006 was basicly removed from the outside of the case. With this simple job it was possible to seat and chamber .444 soft cast (40-1) and groups were near cut in half at 200 yards using 2F Goex.

Curious, anyone tried a hollow-base bullet, instead of reaming or neck-turning brass? The Lee hollow-base 45 caliber mold has made all the difference in many "45-ish" rifles including Danish rollers and Dutch Beaumonts. Missionary, you have the perfect setup for telling research. Try lathe-drilling various base cavities in some of those bullets and firing them in non-turned brass.
The results could be very interesting to a lot of other 43 Spaniards, and could result in a new group mold purchase.

There were hollowbase bullets loaded in original ammo for the RBs of various chamberings. As a side note my surplus 7.62X54R has hollowbase bullets loaded in it.
