View Full Version : Rust protection for reloading components?

Any suggestions for what to coat reloading components with to prevent corrosion?

In particular, my powder measure cylinders tend to rust. In addition to humidity, I sweat profusely in the summer heat. This is obviously a ticklish part to coat.

I use paste or carnauba wax on my woodworking tools. Not an option on reloading tools.

Thanks!

I like Rig Wax, and in a pinch Lemon Pledge in a spray can squirted on a rag works great and smells good too! Everyone has a favorite horse in this race?

I use Eezox. Spray some on the rag and wipe everything down. I suffered from the same problem and a lot of my reloading equipment is discolored due to rust. The Eezox seems to work well enough if all you do is minor handling but anything I have to touch alot then I go ahead and wipe them back down. Since once it dries it's only a dry film then it doesn't leave anything sticky. Powder doesn't build up, rust has stopped, and Eezox is a little goes a long ways. The small spray can I ordered a few years ago is still more than half full. I used to wipe down with WD40 but as usual I started getting a bit of brown varnish on everything and didn't want to have to keep cleaning with acetone.

I keep a dedicated silicone rag for this use. I've had great luck storing molds in mason jars with desiccant.

RCBS has a die cleaning kit which contains a rust preventative: http://www.cabelas.com/product/RCBS-reg-Die-Maintenance-Kit/1314536.uts
