Wow thanks for that link. All the info a guy would need...surprisingly that guy is only 60 miles from me...looks like 1500 is max and 1200 or so is the sweet spot..

I do not know what you have for a rifle but Winchester loaded some factory "92" loads that were pretty stout. Dropped them before WWII. Whether they have any utility I do not know as I keep my 32-20 loaded down to about 13/1400.

Depending upon which bullet you are discussing optimum varies per twist. The RCBS bullet goes to sleep and spins without wobble around 1400 fps. This is true in 10-14 inch twists.

I'm shooting the lyman 69gr (actual 73 with check and lube) at 1950 with accuracy about 2" @ 100yds from my Win 92 with a marginal barrel. I assume the 85gr should go to 1800 fairly easy.

Barrel twist, velocity, rpm and bullet length/weight need to be in synch. I'd choose the Lyman 257420 65gn for a 1:14" twist.

update
after reading that thread for 2 days I got a really good bunch of tips and actually talks to 35 Remington on the phone . as a result just 2 days of load development yealded 3 good loads..
cast 85 at 1100 for small game 1 1/4 @50 iron sights
a cast 85 at around 1500 for coyote load 1 1/2@ 50
the 60 gr load wit a hornady 60 I have not settled on quite yet. it doesn't shoot near as good as the 2 cast loads..2 1/2 @50
it really doesn't make sense with the 14 twist the 60 gr should shoot best..no matter I wanted to shoot the cast boolets more anyway
allloads shot best with aa 2200 and rem 7 1/2 with ww case..
it seems consistent that 11-1200 then 14-1500 is where they shoot
I did this gun up for a tractor/combine gun..and am really pleased to get such good results with the 85 gr bullet. should do a number on those badgers and coyotes that have been mining up the farm...
thanks for the input and link to marlin ouners site. I have no doubt without the tips there I may not have made it..
and special thanks to 35remington for all his effort and recording it for us to cheat on...
the needle nose pliers to bell the case mouth made a huge difference .. I think that is what needle nose pliers were made for..

Be sure to eject slow with your hand over the breech. Those little cases will be flung over your shoulder and get lost pretty quick. They're not cheap these days.

Enjoy!!!!

Good advice...I had 100 rds on hand for this project and scored 400 more win new in the unopened package for 12 bucks a bag...that should keep me going for awhile.

my wife can make my little 25-20 carbine eject brass to the left about 6 to 20 feet.
I won't let her near the rifle version.
