well, I figured since everyone posts about their First NOE boolit mould, i might as well post about my first Ideal boolit Mould.

this little gem caught my eye at my local pawnshop while i was looking for more stuff to add to an already good deal on a Lyman 450. after i quickly paid the nice man behind the register $60 for the Lyman 450 and the ideal mould i ran home and began to warm up the pot and clean my prize.

today was a good day

Nice! I prefer my old Ideals to Lymans. I think they make a better, easier to drop, closer to size, boolit. :D

it spits the boolits out as soon as i open the mould. they came out a bit fat at .259

ive got the bug. im starting to collect old lyman/ideal stuff

Gonna shoot those in a 25-20? If so, 0.259" may be just right.

i dont have any 25 cals, but now i have the perfect excuse to get one!

i was thinking either 25-20 or 250-3000. i got a set of 310 dies for the 250-3000 in a previous deal.

ill end up with guns in both of those calibers anyways at this rate lol.

Ahhhhh . . . big sigh! Nothing like a good old Ideal mold . . . I have a number of them and they all cast great boolits. Some show some use but all have great cavities and spit boolits out as soon as I pour, cut the sprue and open them. It looks like you found a good one!

So....I'm not the only person who buys moulds and don't have a gun in that caliber.
I told my wife it was very common to get the mould first then look for a gun to go with it, She didn't believe me ! I told her no difference then when you buy shoes then look for a dress to go with them new shoes. Women ...they just don't understand.

in the past i tried to avoid tools that I didn't have the gun for..... now im trying to find a 25-20 rifle to go with my new boolit mould.. i would say it may be time to admit i have a problem, but this is just too much fun!

I wouldn't say it's a problem. I got molds, dies, and brass for calibers I have never owned. But one day......... I'll be ready!!!!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Good score. The mold alone would go for $60-$100 on eBay with no handles. Nice Boolit for 256 Winchester too! Tim :bigsmyl2:

Iron is just so much easier to get good bullets out of, at lower temperatures. Quick to heat up and holds the heat well. Little need for a preheating hotplate. Stopped to think about it, I'm down to only one iron mold, the Belding and Mull 311169. NOE's size selection has spoiled me.

Buying a mold for a gun you don't have is perfectly normal . . . no different than buying a holster and then needing to fill it! I'm like Beagle . . . I have brass, molds and dies for calibers I don't have guns for . . but hope to. At my age, I don't worry about it . . . there is no cure. But . . . look at it this way . . . you buy a mold you don't have the gun for because you "like it" . . . there is always someone else out there who will "like it" if you decide to part with it. :-)
