Was just at LGS who had 2 8lbers of 2400 at $200, couldn't bring myself to buy it and I have less than a pound left. The good news is it was there along with BE86, Power Pistol, and a few others. Now hoping prices will start to creep back.

Don't know, $25 a pound and no hazmat/shipping...I think it will be a long time before prices get better than that, I would have grabbed it.

Yeah thats the going rate I wouldn't consider expensive but I wouldn't consider it cheap. If I needed it I would have got it.

Powder Valley currently has it listed for $128.25, but it's not in stock.

I just got an order from them where I had ordered some IMR 4198, 4227, 800X, and primers. 40 lbs of powder plus 4K of primers ended up weighing 47.44 lbs after they added all the packaging.

Prorating the HAZMAT, shipping, and insurance on a per-dollar basis, the add-ons raised the price on the 4198 from $20.63 to $21.84, so $1.21 per pound.

Prorating it on a per-pound basis works out pretty similar since the primers ended up costing about the same (i.e. 20-something dollars per pound).

*IF* I could get powder locally for the same price that I can get it from PowderValley, it would still be slightly more expensive once I had to pay sales tax. For example, for a $165 (current PV price) 8-lb jug of 4198, taxes would be $13.61 around here, bringing the total up to $178.61. A little more expensive than when I last ordered it online even with the HAZMAT, shipping, and insurance charges, but it would might be worth it since I would not have to be finding others who wanted to go in on a bulk powder purchase and thus be ordering so much at one time.

Don't get between me and an 8 lb. jug of 2400 for $200, unless you want to get trampled by an old man! :)

Like most here, I'm afraid the price of powders has PERMANENTLY gone up. It's not what any of us WANT to hear, but during the shortage, a lot of shops have taken a beating economically. No product to sell means no income for them. Many probably HAVE to make up for a bit of seriously lost time when powder becomes available more commonly, and I can't for the life blame them for simply trying to keep their doors open and the wolves from their own doors. Paying more is repugnanat to us all, but it's really NOT the shop's faults. I personally believe politics and gov't intervention has played a part, stocking up (often derisively referred to as "hoarding," which is supposed to be regarded today as a mental abberation) another, and the explosions at some plants yet another part of it - a sort of "perfect storm" of circumstances.

$25/lb. is NOT a bad price in my area, and though it can SOMETIMES be beat by mail order, which is now my prime method of acquisition, even with hazmat and shpg., it's not far off from what I pay there, and it's always good when we do our part and keep our local gun shops open. After all, if they were to close, I don't think we'd find that very helpful in ANY way. LGS's vary, of course, just as we humans do, but except where they're run by the very few who think they have the upper hand and try to take advantage of it (these ARE rare, BTW!), I'd pay the current price and be as glad as I can I could just FIND some! I still need a couple of 8 pounders and could use about 4 or 5 more. This "New Millenium" isn't starting off very well, is it?

To all you no good, Lilly livered enablers! I was so proud yesterday to walk away with my frugal side winning out over my hoarding side. So I post how good I did only to have you horrible enablers tell me how dumb it was not to buy that keg. Well, I lasted less than 2 hours when I called in a panic and asked them to hold the keg until today. I just got back from a meet with my dealer with the 8lber I passed up yesterday! :kidding::lol:

Don't feel too bad, you only came home with 1 keg, not both plus the BE86, Power Pistol, and a few others. I have been lucky with the mail order and have kept my powder purchases in the $20/lb range. My last load came mid April and topped off my coffers of Bullseye, Unique, 2400 and 335. If I hadn't had the ability to do that I wouldn't turn down local powder @ $25/lb if it was something I needed. Ya did yerself rite proud boy.

PS: Being an enabler is not always a bad thing. It's good if you are making someone's future better.

Red Dot and Green Dot just under $20.00 a pound. Butler PA

Most powders at fur feather and fin in Youngstown Oh. If I recall were in the $30.00 and under for IMR 4064, 4831, etc. I think it was 26-27 per pound for eight pounds.

I paid close to this from Wideners around the same time. I mitigated shipping and hazmat by ordering the limit. Cost a lot but the powder is in hand, along w/ some primers ;)

Prices haven't gone up that much at the distributor level. PV is the benchmark for pricing. Just remember this little fact. I choose not to support local businesses because they're charging to much of a premium. The sob stories they tell are quite laughable. When I can get a jug for $60 less online, including shipping and hazmat, I'd be a fool to buy locally.

I got lucky and hit PV when they had 8 lb jugs of 2400 in stock. Got my max of 2 for $300 to my door. I can live with under $20/LB.

Been on my last pound of 2400 for well over a year. Too afraid to use it.
Too bad too its the only powder I have not found a useable replacement for.

lets put it this way.. When it does become readily available again. I will never ever have to worry about running out.
Gona stash a life time supply.

Getting older, so really wont be all that much powder.

And that amount is getting smaller all the time. :)

When we get to our 90s, a "lifetime supply" of powder is probably really not that much. :(

I currently have 4lbs. of 2400 and that isn't a lifetime supply, but if I could find eight more pounds in the next couple of months I might be getting close. :)

Found a jug at the National Gun Day show in Louisville this morning for $199.95. It was the only jug of 2400 I saw at the show,

It came home with me. I've been looking for two years now.

Granted $25 per pound is not bad for a 1# bottle, but the whole point of bigger jugs is to get a better price. That said, 2400 is one powder I'm desperate enough for that I'd pay the $200.

I picked these two bottles up yesterday from my LGS for $20 . . . Total. Powder looks as fresh as the day it was made and they are from the same lot. He also had cases and cases of Alliant powder so I bought a couple lbs of 2400 for $25.95 each. It was a good day :)
