Howdy! Recently picked up a lot of random reloading and gun stuff. In it was 95% of a well used Remington 1100. It was missing the two trigger group pins and the o-ring and the two other gas rings. Along with most of the finish.

Put it together and have an interesting issue. When I tighten the barrel all the way down the trigger will not release. It doesn't matter if I have the gas ring and barrel seal parts installed or not. Acts the same way even if I just hold the barrel tightly in place. If the barrel is about 2mm loose the hammer will fall. Any tighter and it will not work. It doesn't look like any of the meat has been taken off of the barrel where it would meet with the frame.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Sounds like there is something in a bind when barrel is tight. Normally if the disconecter in the bolt is engaging the cut out in the hood the trigger still pills and releases the hammer but the firing pin is locked in place. All you can do is check every thing for fit and free movement, look for odd wear patterns on surfaces.

With it all together and the barrel tight, will the action and bolt move as it should or does it bind too?

The action does not bind. Everything seems to work okay.

If the barrel nut is a little loose when you pull back the bolt and release the operating handle the bolt will push the barrel out just a little. Usually one or two pulls and releases will move the barrel enough for the trigger and hammer to work correctly.

I think the barrel is marked 2 3/4. I'll check that.

Also need to check if I have an 870 trigger plate assembly instead of an 1100.

Found the issue. Out of the random gun parts, there were some 870 parts also. Had an 870 trigger plate assembly installed in the 1100. Grrr....

3" barrels fit on 2 3/4" receivers. In fact Remington sells 3" barrels for 2 3/4" receivers. They are to be used with steel shot only.

Yes but mostly because the 2 3/4" action is not long enough to eject an open (fired) 3" hull.

Same action except for ejector.

23/4" recr ejects 3' hulls just fine.
