I did some reloads for my 43 Maltby and took it to a local gravel pit, I shot at some rocks embedded in the opposite bank about 225 yds out.
The 150 and 174 grain Hornady's bounced nicely off the rock using the battle aperature, I saw the puff of dust and heard the nice whack sound come back a second later.
I like the accuracy of a rifle that possibly trudged through WW2 and still shoots as straight as the day it was made.
I have always loved the 303 ever since I learned to shoot one from a WW1 vet way back in the early 70's.
I shot my biggest moose ever with a 303, I have shot lots of big moose, but the 303 still holds the record so far.

303s are fun! They hit hard and are the quickest bolt action. Good shooting.

Yep, great rifles and old warriors. Glad to hear that new (for your) Maltby made Enfield of yours is shooting well. It's always great fun blasting little rocks out of cliffs and hill sides with an Enfield.

303's are great fun. Interesting history behind them too. I'm thinking I should load up for my Maltby and give it a go. I have a box of Hornady 150's (couldn't get any 174' at the time). What was your load if I may ask?

I think I've mensioned before how rifle (SMLE action and barrel) I put together for a friend shot anything and everything to the same POI or should I say, into the same rock on the hill.

Hi again Pete, my load data for the Hornady 150 is 42 grains of IMR 4064, the max load in my book is 43.5 grains.
I have some more 174 grainers, I will use those for hunting later this fall, I think they have an advantage on deer sized game.

303Guy,

My favorite .303 is a MkIII made in 1911 in mint condition with the windage adjustable rear sight. I load .312" jacketed 150 grain bullets and IMR4895 powder or Lee cast 185-312 RN boolits and IMR4198 powder. BOTH loads shoot to the same point of aim/point of impact at 100 yards.

I began collecting in 1958 and have many .303 rifles, but that MkIII is my favourite. While sitting on deer stand, I often wonder where in the Empire that circa 1911 rifle has served?
