I have an older Remington 700 ADL 30-06, bought it second hand, has to be about 20 + years old. Later on I found another walnut stock that I rehabbed and painted drab green and used as my hunting stock. Well I couldn't tolerate the abuse my shoulder was taking as there was no recoil pad at all, just a plastic butt plate. So I ordered a medium grind to fit Limb Saver pad (Bass Pro Shop $34) and a Miles and Gilbert recoil pad grinding jig (Amazon $44) and put one on myself. I had to cut about 3/4" off the stock to keep the LOP the same which was nerve wracking to say the least but I made the cut just fine with a chop saw. Grinding the pad was pretty straight forward, just followed the Limb Saver directions. One thing I'll add on grinding the pad down is to do it in three different sessions, freezing the pad in-between otherwise the rubber seemed to grab the sand paper the warmer it got. I think someone mentioned on this site to use chalk dust as a lube to help prevent this. Any how....I also took all the scope hardware off as I found the rear scope ring post to be loose. I reattached the scope base with Blue Locktite and torqued the screws with my FAT Wrench. Attached rings, leveled scope and torqued rings down. Lastly I attached a shorter 5-9" Harris bipod that I traded my larger Harris bipod for straight up. The stock was the last step. I had painted this stock twice before so I just gave it a light sanding, spot primed, and painted. I also added a satin clear coat to help protect the paint which is rather chalky and marks up rather easily. Now I just need to head to the range and sight it in. I will try and attach pics...it may take a few tries.

I have shot this after the recoil pad was installed and there is no more pain....as Limb Saver advertises. Next projects would on down the road would be to pillar bed and glass bed. I forgot to mention that I floated the barrel.

I have a 700 ADL in 30-06 that had the metal butt pad. I got tired of the recoil and bought a recoil pad intended for a 7mm Mag, directly from Remington. I only took 1/2" off the original stock, which gave me a little bit longer length of pull than the standard. This is fine with me as I have long arms for my height. The 1" thick pad just made that rifle very enjoyable to shoot. I also replaced the std trigger guard to one with a floor plate, again, off a 700 7mm mag rifle.

In regards to the floor plate install....did you do the work? If so how easy/hard was it to do? Any Pics? Would a basic 700 7mm floor plate work for my rifle (20 + years old). The fellow I bought this gun from wanted to have a floor plate installed but never got around to it. Where did you end up finding a floor plate?
