I got caught here I ordered a mixed case of old ensford 1 1/2 and 2f, Swiss 1 and 1.5 f. The old ensford stated right out shooting great with little to no fouling issues in my 45-90 and 40-65. Way better than the Goex I was struggling with. Well I wasnt paying attention, I just loaded the last of the 1 1/2 eold ensford in my 45-90 and am going to put together some test loads with the swiss to try it. I have 1 and 1.5F. Unless information changes my thoughts Im going to drop the 70 grn charge Ive been using and start testing there with 1.5 F swiss. Monday I will order more old ensford. That went quick even for me. LOL The 70 grn load with .060 wad gives around .100 compression of powder. Im working with a 550 grn bullet.

The .45-2.4" eats that stuff pretty quickly :-). I've been going through about a pound a week in the last while between the PP rifle and the little .40-65.

I know that a lot of people advocate zero compression with Swiss. I do know that 69gr of Swiss 1.5 works quite well in my Shiloh chambered in .45-70. There is some compression with that load. My PP rifle is getting very low muzzle velocity variation with a lightly compressed load of Swiss 1.5.

Thanks Chris. in my rifle the 547 grn bullet from old west is seating into case almost .680 deep from case mouth. I have read alot on the swiss here and other places.

the powder do go fast, with the .45-70 and .40-65 i was going thru only 26 and 19 grains of 5744, but now it's more like 68 and 52 grains of swiss 1-1/2. it's a great thing that black is so easy to get. man that swiss is nice. i've gotta give oe some testing, too.

Yes it does go fast these rifles and cartridges are addictive. I bought a mixed 25 lb case of Old Ensford and Swiss 1f 1.5f and 2f to test in my rifles last fall and now theres a little 2 f OE left and the swiss. I started with the OE and it worked so well I didnt go any further then.

Fired 20 rds of the swiss 1F today to test. SImply dropped the load that worked with olde ensford into case added a .060 napa rubber fiber wad compressed to depth and hand seated the old west 547 grn bullets. Shot pretty good at 200 yds today 2 1/2-3" groups fopr 10 shots. Simply gave one deep long breath thru blow tube. Fouling was almost non existant when cleaned after 10 rds fired. windex 4-5 strokes with nylon brush and 3 patches. Last patch shoed very little fouling a few light black spots is all. Looking good so far need to test to see if aditional cost is justified though

Try the 1.5 it will out shoot all of them . In my 45-90 I drop 74.5 and compress it .050 and seat a 540 grain Paul Jones Postel on it . Shoots real well.

Was wondering how does Graf & Sons powder compare?

Graf's powder is Schuetzen relabeled. It's a pretty good powder, about on par with KIK and a bit better than regular Goex.
