23# dental x-ray lead. 43¢ #. There's more, but in smaller cans for 5 bucks per can. I bought the two largest coffee cans. If they're still there Saturday morning, I'll buy the rest, which will be, if they are all there, about 70# of pure lead. Saturday is half price day for estate sales here! It's not much, but it's clean and "should" be pure. I might have to start casting slugs.

Little is better than nothing?
You will be surprised how your supply will build up. You start with a coffee can and the next thing you know you have a pallet full of lead out back of the shed.

Nice score! I bet its not pure though, its probably harder. But its usually really clean.

Sure does! I've peeled pole emblems off of old poles in the junk pole pile. They are soft lead, about the size of x-ray film, but thicker. Like 1/16 or maybe 1/8 in.

My neighbor is a plumber. He's dropped off nigh on 30# of lead pipe this month.

I also picked up a pound and a quarter of Herco at the sale for 8 bucks.

Dental foil score is a little better than maybe you thought. Both myself and zombie woof have posted percentages on dental x-ray foil. It is not plain lead. Has a modest amount of Sb, and enough tin to cast better than plain.

Mine was Pb 96 / Sb 2.5 / Sn 1.5 http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?244879-Dental-Foil&p=2818228&viewfull=1#post2818228 which in my mind is pretty good just as it is with BHN around 11 and decent amount of tin.

Zomby had his at only 1.5 Sb but still not too bad. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?143604-Dental-X-ray-Backing-Foils&p=1595198&viewfull=1#post1595198 probably around BHN of 10 and decent amount of tin.

They do smoke and stink when they are smelted down. Plastic coating on some I think or maybe just the adhesive, plus the occasional plastic divider. Makes melting WW's come off like air freshener. On the plus side the mosquitos won't be around bothering you while you melt them.... :-)

Thanks for the information! These are just the lead foil, no plastic. Already separated.

I sorted out the plastic and paper from the ones I melted but I either missed some or some of the lead foil will have some sort of film or adhesive on it. Originally the foil was probably stuck on the film holder and peeled off to open. Sort of like those foil seals on cans of juice you pull off to open the can.
