Where could I get a dirt cheap M93 Spanish Mauser barrel in 7x57? I'm talking maybe $10 cheap. Anything, almost, would beat the rusted out one on my old rifle. I plan to cut it to 20" or 21".

Done tried www.e-gunparts.com

Junior, you might ask any gunshops you know that do rebarrelling, they probably got a bunch of old barrels laying around. I'll inquire with a friend of mine who has done dozens of mausers over the last thirty years, he never throws away anything!

...........Give Springfield Sporters a call. I know they have 29 inchers. They weren't $10, but they were cheap. I got one several years ago to modify and use on a 1895 Chilean Short Rifle. When I called I said I would pay extra to have a decent one picked out, and the lady said that was okay. She'd tell the warehouse guy to check through some.

The one I got was externally V-G. The bore was somewhat dark, but after some cleaning it got some shine to it. The lands were worn some but it will shoot the 150gr Lyman Lovering just fine to about 1600 fps.

Here's a 7mm for small ring Mauser on ebay for $9.99 but it's 16" but according to seller original length cavalry carbine barrel:

May have to butcher your stock but it'll make a handy boat gun!

Yes, I think that was the length of the Calvary Carbine. The Short Rifle is 21".

I looked at that Ebay listing. The Argentines didn't use a 7x57 Mauser for their caliber. They used a 7.65x53. Their Cavalry, Engineer, and Police carbine for their 1891 Model carbines used a 17 inch barrel I believe. Also the Argentine crest is clasping hands and the marking the fellow gave that are on that barrel don't seem they would be Argentine. Interesting barrel though.

That ebay barrel's 16" length is legal, huh?

Scrounger, what did your gunsmith friend say?

Junior

16 inches is de limit for rifle barrels, so it's legal. Look at the Winchester 94 Trappers, they have 16 inch barrels. I believe it's 18 inches for shotguns.

I put in a bid on the barrel. Sure hope it's a 7x57.

Joe,
18" is correct for a shotgun, but there is a catch, there is also a min overall length requirement. I want to say 27" but on that point I am not sure. So be careful when you shorten one. Jetwrench

Junior;

Sorry to see you lost the auction. E-Bay is a vicious neighborhood.

I'll keep my eyes out for another suitable candidate.

Thanks, Sean. No way would I pay $26 for a barrel (1) I'm not 100% sure would fit and (2) I'm not 100% sure I can install having never done it before.

Junior, are you capable of threading and chambering a barrel? Remington 7MM Magnum pulled barrels are common on Ebay and go real cheap. Get one of those and cut off the chamber...

Nope, I got a hacksaw, a hammer, a monkey wrench, and a vise.
