Does anyone know the differnces if any in the original Star Lubersizer and the Magma Star? I have the original Star and see that the Magma Star uses an O-ring on the die. What does this O-ring do? Is there any other differences?

As far as use there are no differences. Just don't use th o-ring, it works fine. I have one new one and 2 old ones, they all work exactly the same.

I've owned several of both. I can not tell any difference.

The O ring keeps lube from leaking around the top of the sizing die. This keeps from having to machine at very close tolerences............Lynn

Funny, I just bought a used Star (original SD) last week and called Magma yesterday to order a top punch that was flat. The one that came with mine was concave for base down lube/size. I asked them if there were any differnces between mine and the one that is currently produced and they said when Magma took over production they added an "O" ring to the unit and I thought they said for a total of 2. They said it really made the potential for leaking worse. It sounded like they went back to the original design of Star's and haven't looked back.

A couple wraps of teflon tape works as well as the O ring, and it's alot more economical.

the new ones don't have the die set screw either. I never say the need for this anyway.
