I was at the North Phoenix Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday to pick up some fishing supplies for a trip up north to the Black River here in Az.
They keep a clipboard on the gun counter listing the powders and how much they have in stock. The list was 2 full pages.
Availability has improved but the price has not come down yet.
They also had 100 round boxes of CCI Standard Velocity 22 LR on the counter for $9.00 each. OUCH! I did not need any thankfully.

I get down there now and then and always get something off that clipboard. The prices are always better than what powder goes for up Prescott way.

Curious, what prices does sportsmans get for powder down there.
Locally we have only 2 places to buy powder, and sportsmans gets it in more often, and a lot better variety, so basically they are our only choice.

It runs around 26.00 or so a pound at Sportsmans. Mid 30's up Prescott way.

That would be about right for what we pay then. Here most rifle powders are 29 to 31 in one pound containers. When unigue or 2400 is available (extremely rare) it runs around 24 a pound.

I live in Mesa, Az and I've had to drive as far as Cabelas in Glendale, AZ just to buy powder. And the powder I bought wouldn't normally be my first choice or my second or third choice. It's about an eighty or ninety mile round trip.
The good new is, I recently came across a fellow on craigslist that stocks and re-stocks both of my favorite powders and at a price comparable to brick and mortar outlets and online sellers; minus the hazmat fees. I now have him on speed dial.
My favorite powders are 2400 and Varget; hands down. With the exception of my pistols, 2400 and Varget can take care of all my reloading needs. I picked up a couple of pounds of 2400 a couple of weeks ago that should last me the rest of the year. I wished I'd had enough to buy a couple more pounds of Varget at the time. I'd be set for the next couple of years.
I know this doesn't do you Arizona guys in outlying areas alot of good but, to you metro area reloaders, you might give this guy a looksee. And it's all on the up and up too.

I did check a couple of Prescott shops yesterday. Bill's Trading Post on White Spar Rd had plenty of Hodgdon and IMR. In fact, more than I've seen in years. One row full of 8 Lb kegs alone. I saw 2400 and Unique. I bought some H4198 at $28.00. Then went to High Country Guns up the street. His stock was lower than usual, but so were prices. He had HP-38 there. I needed some CFE-223 and paid $29.50. Things are looking better.
