Today's reading from The Book of Armaments is from "The Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions", John J. Donnelly, 1987, Stoeger Publishing Co, South Hackensack, NJ 07606 ISBN: 0-88317-316-8 (paperback)

Now, let us reverently heed the words of truth from page 538:

CASE PREPARATION:
Make From: Factory or .303 Savage. Turn rim to .492" dia. (may not be necessary). Cut case off to 1.30", I.D. neck ream for .410" dia. bullet. F/L size case and chamfer. You can generally find the .41 Magnum cases."

Nothing saying here that you have to stop at 1.3" or 1.6"....

The .303 Savage case is difficult to find. .41 Magnum and .414 are much easier to find. Why would anyone want a .41 variant longer than 1.6 inches? Too long for any revolver or pistol. If someone just wants a non-standard .41 caliber for use in a rifle there are much better cases to base it on.

Ever try to find the .414 when Starline isn't making it?

Why would anyone want a .375 variant longer than 1.6 inches?

Too long for a pistol or revolver? I might have a pistol somewhere...

Better cases to base it on? Probably. OK. I'll take that under advisement.

Go with the 444 Marlin necked down to 41 and rock and roll! You can find these easier than the 303 Savage.

heard 30-30 cases can be formed to 41 mag. Story of a soldier in Nam carried a 41 (Mod 58) ?

I've successfully made 41 Mag cases out of 30-30 Winchester by cutting to proper length and chamfering them. The head areas did not expand quite to the diameter of the rest of the case, but they worked just fine. LLS

Use some 6.5 or 7.35 Carcano brass and moon clips. You would be the only one on the block with that conversion. I once saw a fleabay auction for dies in something called a .41 Italian Special. It had the shell holder for the Carcano cartridges.

.30-30 case is too small for .410 bullet. A straight (basic) 30-30 case would be hard pressed to take a 10mm (.400) bullet. It might be possible to make a substitute for the .41 Magnum from 30-30 but the OP wanted something longer than the .41 Magnum or even the .414 Maximum. I have a wildcat 40-30 based on a straight no taper 30-30 case and .400 is the maximum and it helps if the chamber is cut a little lose at that.

If you want a longer 41 caliber cartridge just use the 40-65. I load mine with 41 caliber pistol boolits and shoot them in my Pedersoli Rolling Block.
