Found this Marlin 336 in 35 Rem today in a local shop. Never saw wood like this on a 336. Had to take it home. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj148/bullshot_photo/IMG_4896.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj148/bullshot_photo/IMG_4895.jpg

That is one lovely peice of timber - makes you wonder who at Marlin let that slip by! I have seen worse peices on some custom guns. Good find and even better buy!

The 1894 I bought in 1970 came with a beautiful crotch-feathered piece of walnut for the butt. Forearm's very plain.

I found a 336 with beautiful wood a couple of years ago. Like you, I couldn't leave the store without it. Luckily, I came prepared. I had a Beretta .40 cal. that I never could warm up to and traded it plus boot for the Marlin. I know I got hosed but somehow, it didn't bother me then and still doesn't. I think yours is better looking by a little bit.
