All this doinking about with the 41 Rem Mag and the 414 Super Mag has opened my mind up just a teensy bit. The 303 Savage shares similar rim and head size to the 41. Now let us consider the 375 Winchester, nice case, a little over 2" in length. Chambered in the Contender.

41 Rem Mag : 1.285"
414 Super Mag : 1.610"
414 Savage : 2.020"

Where did the moniker "414 Savage" come from? Think of the 38-55, and the updated "375 Winchester"

Now where do you expect to find .303 Savage brass? People who own .303 Savage guns have largely retired them years ago because they can not find brass to reload. Let a dead horse lie.

.375 Winchester and similar bases sizes are way too small. If you want a .410 rifle with more power than the .414 Maximum move up to the .444 Marlin case. It will be around for years.

The .303 savage cases are not a dead horse- they are available and in stock at Grafs and powder valley.It is pretty good brass in my experience.

I am afraid of auto-sado-mathicism. Pain through firing a gun with heavy recoil. Besides, I want to use this in a Contender.

Small bases? The 357 Max has achieved a cult-like following.

Pardon me, but getting a .41/.444 does have an advantage of the plentiful .444 marlin case, but the purity of straight wall cases calls to my dark primitive side. Pull the trigger on excitement!

Been shooting caseless rounds, a Lyman GPR with a .41 groove diameter fast twist barrel.

But a nice 1885 or other action chambered for .41 Mag is on my list.

Hmm, an adjustable PP mold... I knew Lyman / Ideal made their Perfection moulds, but that adjustable PP is news to me.

Grazing about on the digital veldt, I see the SAAMI pressure for the .41 Rem Mag is 36,000 psi. A good bolt or falling block rifle should be able to handle that. Maybe more...
