I saw an article written and illustrated by mannyca on this forum a few days back about making 40 S&W brass into 44 mag bullets and a light went on in my old slow brain. I just had to try the same technique to see about swaging for 41 Mag. I have 40 S&W brass that I have been trying to trade off but so does everyone I guess. I knew from past experience that a 30-30 die would swage the nose of a 411-265 boolit down for easy chambering into my 41 mag blackhawk. So it was an easy step to see that the 30-30 die might be useful in squeezing down annealed 40 brass to approximately .410 diameter. I used shortened 40 brass and a 150 gr 358 boolit inserted nose first into the case and swaged using a 30 30 die and the punch from a 357 lee push through die and lots of lube. I discovered that my 30 Rem die worked a little better than 30 30 Win die, it has a sharper shoulder angle and a more definite stop when you are shoving the lead into the case. I used a 6.5 Jap die to form the point.

I did this with my RCBS jr press with no un-due strain on it or me and used dies I had on hand. I still need to dig out my 410 push through die to get these to a uniform diameter and clean them up a little but I was encouraged to get as far as I did in a few minutes of tinkering.

Nice
Pin tumbling overnight will make the brass shiny again
