i finally got my sporterized 30-40 krag out and i shot some loads. pictures look like c$#p, but your dealing with a stroke-abled guy who can not seem to draw with his left hand!!!:wink: i've been using a scope now for 20+ years, it was a little odd for me to start using open sights. i have, thank the Lord, 20/15 in the left eye and 20/20 in the right. i don't know HOW they did/do it(young and full of pep in the 1900s), but for this guy its going to be a redfield 102k (that i bought) peep sight.

everything was shot at 50 yards.

165gr(173gr) ranch dog(.311") with 25.5gr of h4198

i took 20 rounds out because i had to sight it in. rounds 1 and 2 shot the bottom of the paper. 3 was real high. 4 as you can see was up a little bit. 5 and 6 were low and to the right. 7 and 8 are a little high and left. 9 and 10 almost there, but high and left. 11 and 12(i don't know what i was doing?) low. 13 and 14 a little to the right. 15, 16 -17 are almost on.
the first 3, i had my sights way to high, i think 500yards, and them boolits just kept goin!!! alright, they didn't. they stuck in the dirt bank past the target. i couldn't believe how good the ranch dogs were. i've got a couple of more powders, but i think i'm going to stay with h4198.

190gr(196gr) legacy fn(.311") with 32.0gr of varget http://www.airtacticsaz.com/legacy-lbt-premium-hunting-bullets.html

this one has me befullded(sp?). now, it did kick. not enough to hurt me but you knew it was there. i did not, i mean DID NOT
move the sights. i fudged #1 up. 2 was a little low, 3 was still a little low. 4, 5 -6...well, i went to drink a cup of coffee, more likely two or three. i knew that they kicked somewhat...but this....:veryconfu...grrrrrrrr.
i calmed down somewhat. then i put the next rounds 7,8,9-10 down range. i pick up the old binos and....right in the middle!!! don't know how, don't know why....it just is.

i think i am going to stay with the 165gr ranch dogs. less kick is what is selling for me. i thought this would take awhile, getting open sights, but the old army training kicked in and i don't do half as bad as i thought i did. well, until i start at 100 yards!!!

If you have any 2400, I have had great luck with it in my military guns. the 102k is a well made sight should work good for you.

i'm waiting for the lgs for some 2400. i would really like to get some. i tried the flip up peep sight, i found the paper but i couldn't even find the diamond(3"x3" square)[smilie=b: . thanks for mentioning the redfield 102k, i'm just glad that i found it when i did.[smilie=w:

i have some rel7 and varget loaded up for 165gr ranch dog.

in case i forgot, the rear sight is set for almost 300yards and the windage is two hash marks to the left. i figure i put around 40 boolits(10 165gr after i cleaned it, 30 165 & 190gr today) and there is no leading.
