Got one of the lid/shelf combinations from http://www.my2ndright.com/ (http://www.my2ndright.com/)

Works great but here's the problem:

I have my PID probe coming straight down into the lead from my old top.

I plan to drill the top but see two ways to solve the problem

First is drill out a bolt longways head down to start of threads and then bolt this to top. Probe would slide down the hollow bolt and stay put. would use a R/C wheel collar to hold the probe off the bottom. Then just pull out the probe and lift off the top

Second would use a longer bolt on top of unit where it bolts together (there are two). use a short hollow rod as a stand off. drill out a flat alum. bar, one end the diameter of the probe and the other the diameter of the round stand off. This would fit over the stand off so I could rotate it out of the way after removing the probe. this would have an extra step so liking the first one better.

So, where does one find a hollow bolt? I looked at the threaded rod that is used inside lamps--that would work but really too big. Either a smaller rod or hollow bolt is my first choice

Don't have a lathe or this would be a piece of cake (I think)

Ideas from the experts?

My thermocouple is one of the smaller "button" types, installed in a hole through the bottom of the pot. However, if you really want a drilled bolt, you could make whatever size you want with a bolt, a drill press, and perhaps fifteen minutes of intense concentration.

I would like to see the lid but the link doesn't work for me.

Let me google that for you:

I'd probably try to drill one on a drill press.

Thanks for the offer Fred.

a 1 or 1 1/2 inch bolt. The diameter of the hole needs to be 7/32 or a bit larger so whatever size bolt would work I leave up to your expertise.

I'll email you my address.

How you would like to be paid? paypal (I know that's not universally loved way, Spanish Doubloons, unruly children?

Just drill a hole right in the lid. Get a probe with the correct length to reach within 1/2" of the bottom of the pot. Most probes have threads and a nut where they connect to the wire. This should be enough for a little fine depth adjustment, if needed.

Another option, if you really need a threaded piece is to use a universal stripped threads replacement oil pan plug. Something like this...

I'm sure your local car parts place will have these in stock and for a better price, too.
