I've been casting 32 100 grain DEWC from Magma mold 32-100-WC BB SGG. I size it to .313 and use Magma lube. It comes in about 103 grains lubed with range scrap/wheel weight alloy.

There is a real lack of data on this boolit and powders have been somewhat scarce. We've been fortunate to get CSB-1 represented as a Rio powder under $20 a pound and plentiful. We are told to use Universal data so that's what I've been doing. It's very versatile for the myriad of cartridges I load for including 9MM, 45ACP, 38 SP, 357 Mag, 44Mag, 41 Mag, 20GA Buckshot loads.

So, I though I'd share the Chrony results from a trip to the range today.

Chrony data was out of 3" Ruger SP101 with 5-shot strings.

All loads used Winchester small pistol primers and new Starline brass.

All 100 WC seated to crimp groove, 1/2 turn on Lee FCD for crimp:

32 S&W Long

2.2 grain CSB-1 (least possible in Dillon 550 powder drop) Avg. 719 FPS, ES 24 SD 9. Nice, nice load - fired safely in my SW Model 31-1. Fixed sights impact about point of aim at 30'.

1.8 grain Trail Boss. Avg. 630 FPS, ES 13, SD 5

32 H&R Magnum

3.5 grain CSB-1. Avg. 999 FPS, ES 13, SD 5

2.5 Trail Boss, Avg. 713 FPS, ES 78, SD 30

Also ran with Hornady XTP and CSB-1 - Chrony results below:

32 H&R Mag

85XTP with 4.3 grain CSB-1 Avg. 1,040 FPS, ES 66, SD 25. This was extremely accurate with maybe 1.5" group 50' off hand from just an average shooter. Very mild and pleasant to shoot in the heavy SP101.

100 XTP with 3.7 grain CSB-1 Avg. 900 FPS, ES 65, SD 25

Interestingly, the ft. lbs calculation on the 32HR Mag 100DEWC @ 999 FPS is 222 ft. lbs. And, not in the post above, was a chrony I did on 38 Special with 125 Hornady XTP at max load of 5.2 CSB-1 = 886 FPS approx 218 ft. lbs. from a 5" barrel. So, that 32 HR Mag from the shorter (3" barrel) still had greater foot lbs than the 38 special. And, with the DEWC the meplat is larger than the flat tip of the XTP - I'm not quite sure what that expansion is on the XTP and may be a factor. But, I was pleasantly surprised at that data. Ed Harris writes a lot on the 32 cartridge and I'm a fan of it, too.

Hope you find this useful.

UPDATE:

Went to the range with the Pro Chrono today. Did more extensive load testing. Sorry, I forgot the ES on all of these. But, the SD is not too bad and the ES was similar to last time.

Here is the data:

I tested the loads from both a 2" Smith & Wesson 432PD and 3" Ruger SP101. Data at end of each entry is Avg. Velocity and SD then Ft Lbs at the end.

No extraction resistance at all on the 432PD. On the last two loads, 3.3 & 3.5, extraction was more difficult on the SP 101.

The powder is a bulk CSB1 sold locally. I believe it is a Spanish powder. The literature that came with it says to use Universal data - so that's what I've been using. I'm pretty happy with it - use it in all my loads 32SWL, 32HR, 38SP, 9MM, 45ACP, 44 Mag, 357 Mag on moderate velocity loads. It will not achieve the high magnum velocities that H110 or 2400 does. So, I use it mostly for approx 1,000 FPS and lower.

I'm still impressed with that max load ft lbs in the SW 342PD in just a 2" barrel. It is comparable to at 38 SP 125XTP in snubbie.

Sorry for format - copied for excel.
