I have a keg of Longshot I may have to sell due to lack of funds, but....I dont want to sell it for fear that it may be a great cast boolit powder. I load for 44mag and 45acp so it will work for both.

How do you feel it compares to 2400, or Blue Dot or even H110?

I say if it works for what you have there I say stick with it.

I know it will work in 44mag and it is becoming one of my favorite powders in 45 colt also.Hogdon has a lot of load data for it and it is a pretty versatile powder. If you can manage and not sell it I would hang onto it and use it.Just my.02

It works well in the 44mag for mid range loads, but I think it's to slow for the 45acp. Not that it won't load both it's just not the best suited for some things. But if that is all you have, shoot away!!

I think you can make good use of the powder for what you want. I am sure you can sell it for more than you paid for it if you have had it a while, but what will it cost you to replace it?

I've really found Longshot to be a darling of a powder. Great for all out 40/10mm and great at mid level magnum velocity in my 41 mag.

Blue Dot is kinda peaky in cold weather and Alliant actually discourages usage in the 41 mag now so I only really use it in 45 Colt. 2400 is versatile in all the magnum revolvers and reduced load rifle. 296 is good for all out magnum only. This is just my experience.

Id keep the LS and use what I had while funding improves.

Well I do have lots of other powders, I am some what of a hoarder.
However I stocked up when I had the income. Now not so much, I could not replace the Longshot, but i have many others to fill the void. Like H110.

I don't think you'll be happy with H110 attempting to fill the void of Longshot. That's just IMHO

I'd love to find a way to keep it.

I think I would get rid of the H110 instead. Too limited in use and too narrow a load range. YMMV....

I have quite a lot of 296 and H110 not t mention wc820.
But you are right H110 and 296 have such limited load ranges for 44 mag.

So far the fella that wanted the Longshot has not responded to my email from this past weekend.

As far as 2400 Alliant goes, I have even used 9 grains of it in my 45 auto rim revolver, and it works fine. I have attached a video of my double barrel 10 gauge in which I can use 45 grains of 2400 and it works fine, the gun has 32 inch barrels. Usually my favorite is 32 grains of IMR 800-X, or 34 to 36 grains Blue Dot. With the 2400, I use 14 grains in 357 magnum, and 20 grains in 44 magnum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfc0MZd4DVo
