How will the bird flu affect wild turkey population?

Unfortunately not enough is know how the flu virus is effecting wild turkeys. Wild water fowl seemed to be very good carriers but have little or no mortality. Only time will tell.
This particular strain of flu seems to devastate commercial turkeys. It has effected some chicken flocks but not as severe as commercial turkeys.

My local wild turkey flock has not been around when I go down to the river to walk. Hope they just moved...

I have watched the turkeys here in New Hampshire for some time. Outside my office window I have had as many as 42 at one time. We put out cracked corn for them daily.
The flock(s) have been scarce in the last week or so, but that is because hunting season opened. They seem to know and keep a very low profile until the season is over.
I have not seen any indication of the bird flu. No carcasses anywhere. Just hunters keeping them scarce.

I think the flu will only be a problem where there are hundreds or thousands confined to a very small space.

Not sure if the flu could be any threat to WILD birds.
