I need to modify a case (.222 Rimmed) to use with the Hornady OAL system. Does anyone know what tap I need to buy?

Thank you,
Richard

I bought one through MSC industrial supply. Had to order it. Only took a day to get from their warehouse. I ran an FL sizer die upside down in the press with the decapper/expander removed. A slight tap on the bottom of the case held it firmly while I tapped the threads. Wooden dowel tapped it out from the top of the die when finished. Not cheap... but if you make a few. it pays for itself.

Not sure what cartridge your doing, but if it is anything like a 22 Hornet an adapter will be needed to fit on the tool due to necessity of a smaller tap size.

The modified cases are tapped 5/16-36.

Didn't re-check tap size after reading post. But I did get the correct tap from MSC, I remember that. The smaller adapter for the 22 Hornet might be 12-56nf though.
Somehow that tap size got into the original conversation.

I almost bought the whole lee get up and came across someone else idea....use a case either once fired or new, doesn't matter, then seat a bullet and pull the bullet out. Forget to mention to remove primer. There should be enough tension to keep bullet in the case neck while you chamber the round in your rifle. Just keep the tip barely seated in case mouth before chambering. I saved about 65 bucks doing it this way. This method works in my ot 6 and .375

The standard modified cases are the 5/16" x 36. Small cases like the hornet are too small for this size and they do use an adapter but for the 222R you want the 5/16" x 36.

Fired cases out of Your non semi auto will be custom fit to Your chamber much more so than new or re-sized brass, plus one will not need to expand the case mouth so the boolit moves freely.
