View Full Version : Fan Direction?

I was asked to add a switch to a Polaris 4/wheeler cooler fan, it would not work otherwise. I'm curious which way the fan should push the air. Away from the radiator is what the owner said, or at the motor. Is the radiator air cooled then from only moving air? Or did the air just seem to blow backward because it bounced off the radiator? Having done this on auto's, never have I had to wonder the direction, always seemed like they blew toward the radiator?

I know I should have checked the wiring plug as to which one was grounded, but I couldn't find the multimeter.

Thanks
Jim

On a moving vehicle it should move from the front to the rear.

Pulling air THROUGH the radiator, not just blowing away from it...

Pull through the radiator toward the engine. Otherwise you are fighting airflow when the bike is moving.

Before adding switches, I'd troubleshoot the problem.

You want to blow cool air through the radiator, not hot engine air. Fix it right or let the owner find someone else to fix it his way.

Bad thermal switch????? $38 on ebay......... I have an inline switch on mine right now because mine is badly corroded. You can also get override switch kits which will override the thermal switch and let you run the fan all the time in extreme conditions.

on a Cat Dozer, it blows from the engine through the radiator, towards the front, and out the front, so I can see why you would ask.
