This is what I am learning to breech seat with. Top one, new to me. Built by Schwartz (Wayne I believe) built in early 80's . I topped it with an old balvar. Came with a ton of correspondence between builder and owner (Gibbs.) Last owner sold it to me as a 30-30 but the paperwork appears to reference another caliber. Bore is .310. 2 breach seaters. Cool custom stock with removable comb for loading with the straight seater. I believe that was done by a peter shuttleworth, it is in papers.
Second is a Barry Darr build, action serial number is 3 digit. Was built on 1971. It was a personal gun of his, am the 4th owner behind a Bob A. (All I know, lives in iowa) then Virgil Davis. It is 32-40 with cam type seater. Topped with a unertl programmer 20x

Beautiful rifles! I only have a single Ruger #1, but I don't think I will ever let it go.

Very cool. Sold my #1 off a little while ago to a forum member. Still looking for one to replace it.

I can't see the cut in the wood, only the cut in the recoil pad. As much as I try, I can't see it in the wood. Awesome work. Not familiar with that type of breach loading. I have a couple of custom #1's, and wouldn't let them go for any amount of money. Pure art.

I looked at that 30-30 in a gun auction a little while ago and was very serious of buying it myself. I hope it shoots great for you!

Ya, it sat for a while then I had to just get it. Glad I did. Not sure it is a 30-30. Papers reference 30-40 and 32-40. Will cast and see

I have a No.3 built by Larry Thompson and Tim Mather
DST, and a chamber that can only be breech seated
if your chamber cast shows a 32-40ish chamber with a 1" long straight section, that is .321 in dia
let me know I have dies to make the brass

Larry was the past Secretary of the ASSRA

I shot with Wayne at a Coors Regional..really a nice guy

Thx!

It is set up for breech seating as per all the notes. Many discussions on chamber, reamer used, molds etc. Will check it out a bit more this weekend

32-40 brass is hard to come by but can be formed by running 30-30 or 38-55 through a 32-40 sizing die. I'm still working on my ASSRA #26 http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?268648-Ruger-No-1-ASSRA-No-26-of-100&highlight=ruger
but have been distracted by my CPA.
