I have always been put off by cracks in the tang area of stocks when on the hunt for another milsurp rifle. Should I be? I've seen many that are in very good condition except for that one flaw and would jump all over it save for that. Is that something easily fixed or should another stock be purchased?

That is the weak spot in most rifle stocks. If the cracks are tight and old, I usually don't worry about them as long as the price is right and the rifle is good otherwise.

Kind of depends on why it cracked. If the action has setback you will need to do some repair to the recoil lug seating area. If Private Cannon-Fodder fell on it, the wrist will need repaired.
