I pick up a old box of Sierra at a garage sale mark 30-30 170 gr. FP Diameter .307
The price was right but will they fly out of my Marlin 30-30?
I did check them with my gauge Yep they are .307

Believe it or not, jacketed bullet diameters are nominal in size. Just work your load up in the usual fashion.

Yup they probably will fly ,but where ,Did you slug your barrel and is it micro groove or ballard ? Kind of important !

Actully a 30-30 Winchester IS .307" groove diameter not .308"

That is why the old Sierra bullets are .307"

Most bullet makers quit making the .307" in favor of just making them .308s which work just as well and don't scare people away from using them is other 30 caliber guns.

The .307s you have will shoot just fine from .308" groove diameter barrels too.

There is one sure fun way to find out, and that is shoot them.

The 0.307 bullets worked fine in my 336 giving reliable accuracy adequate for deer hunting.

Before WWII 30/30's were .307.After the war no one made barrels with that groove diameter any more.I shot a lot of those .307 bullets in several Marlin 30/30's,microgroove and otherwise. Till Sierra stopped making them. They work just as well as the .308 ones.
