DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

The good Lord must protect the stupid because this guy did not get hurt. Pouring molten aluminum into a watermelon has to be right up there close to the top of the list of bad ideas. Well here is a link to the story and video:

I guess the Tinsel Fairy was on vacation that day.

Molten tin is used by researchers to pour down antholes to get casting of the intricate tunnel systems. Other natural castings are done with similar metals.

Guess our little fairy only frequents our lead pots!

Could not get the video to play.
The molten metal needs to be submerged entirely in a liquid like water to create a lead tinsel fairly sculpture. It is the water expanding violently when heated was past boiling that creates the explosive effect.
A live primer gives the same effect but on a smaller scale.

I saw it a few days ago on youtube. What a waste of a fine watermelon.

This is the same thing as acid and water that you learned in high school chemistry.
You can pour acid into water, but not water into acid.
You can drop hot metal into water (water quenching), but not water into molten metal (tinsel fairy).

As a lad I poured molten lead into small holes in the damp red NC clay. The steam eruption made fishing sinkers with the string hole already present.
The eruption was just a mild burp.

That was really neat. I am not sure if it can be called art, but the results are interesting.

I had to watch that twice. There were some nice melons in that video!
I like melons.

Looks like the dog is smart enough to stay clear whenever that idiot gets another one of his brilliant ideas.

Didn't explode because the steam was not confined.

If all they want are cool looking metal sculptures, then they need to get a Lee bottom pour pot!

Mine make those cool towers all the time.
