I'm very curious about these new powders from IMR.

IMR should show the new powders location on a burn rate chart. Comparing their new powders velocity variations at 125*F temperature extremes to Win. ball powder isn't impressive.

Introducing new powders while still not keeping up with consumer demand is pure corporate arrogance!

Plenty of those new powders at the Biddeford, ME gun show yesterday. I didn't want any new powders, though.

The hide has good info on some of the new powders. They are using jacketed, though.

There is a good write up on all three in the 2015 Hodgdon annual. I had to laugh at the comment on 4166 in the latest Handloader. They thought it was going to be a mediocre powder until he read it had that copper removing compound, and that appears to be its main reason for existence.

I don't give a rip about the "copper removing compound" except that I hear it's a clean burner. All I care about is finding a powder for the 308 that does that certain something for a cast bullet in 308 sized cases.
If I see some of this stuff, I'll probably grab some and see how it does.

I've picked up 2# of the 4166 to give it a go. Mediocre numbers but seems to be temperature insensitive and a clean burner per the reports I've seen.

Let me know how it works for you!

their entire existence is due to manufacturing waste laws.
get used to seeing new powders and changes to the older powders.
the base stocks are changing so the industrial waste [amount and type] can change to meet some newer guidelines in the European country's.

their guidelines/laws/import rules will affect us here of course cause the planet is global.

wait until we start seeing more and more 2400 and everybody notices that it's different..

It'll probably be a while. Have a few reloading and casting projects ahead of the powder project. But will do.

Different in what way?

I'll say different in price. It cost a lot more than most other powders and for getting 100 fps faster speed the chamber pressure is at the red line.

Picked up a 8 lb keg of IMR 4166 at the LGS today. $209.95, so quite a premium over IMR/AA 4064, but neither of those was available. Shooting .30-06 and .308 in M1 Garand and M14 for CMP competitions, and it can replace 4064 and 4895 for that. The copper fouling reduction and temp stability are just bonuses. I'll stick with RL-15 with 77 and 80 gr Nosler Custom Comps for AR-15 for now.
