I let a casting buddy swipe a few ingots until time/weather permits smelting.
He likes to keep track of everything and he roughly counted the ingots I have.
1350 more or less.
I need to make more boolits. :Fire:

(I also have eleven buckets full, ready to melt.)

I traded away 25 lbs. the other day. It was harder to part with than money. After all. I've only got 700 lbs. left, and 8 buckets of ww and 50 lbs. lead pipe etc. Gotta get more. Dale

I collect for our group because the others cannot get away to do it. I started a father-and-son team into casting, so they got FOUR buckets of WW's. Then, I owed another pal a favor, so he got TWO buckets and will get TWO more. That leaves me with only SIX left to smelt. Oh, and I have about 600 ingots ready to cast, but no place left in the loading room to store any more finished boolits, and all the brass is loaded. Am I a 'sickie'? Nah! I'm just a normal everyday 'hobbyist', like all the rest of you fine gentlemen casters here, so "We're all right, Jack!". Sure we are. We tell each other that truth every day, or at least look at the guy in the mirror and tell him. Don't we?

2 good sources for lead, lots of pure or soft, not much ww or lino. scrap guy doesn't want the hassle of it and has his check in guy pull it aside for me. hasn't let me pay him yet, although i give the gatekeeper hunting ammo.
Other is shielding mfr who is friend & client, gives me scrap when i ask, forklifts a pallet into my truckbed

A surefire cure of lead collecting sickness is to move house. I did recently and near causes a hernia shifting all that dang lead!

I have 14 5 gal buckets to smelt PLUS I have 600 lbs of ingots and 200lbs of linotype. I get about a bucket a month on average and simply cannot tell my source to give them to someone else. It costs me a case of Harpoon IPA every two buckets so the price can't be beat.
I will smelt them all down and use the ingots for trading material. My goal is to get enough lead and linotyupe in ingots to last me a lifetime......and hopefully never have to move.

I looked some more and found I have 220 lbs of lino, 120 lbs of unknown 20 lb ingots, 20 lbs of 63/37 solder, 60 lbs of #2 alloy plus the above mentioned collection.
I have been at this for four years. What should I expect in the years to come?

For my personal use I currently have 3300 lbs of wheelweights, 600 lbs of 4% tin alloy, 300 lbs of linotype, and 30 lbs of pure tin. I get about 75 lbs of FREE wheelweights a month (don't need 'em, can't bear to not take them). Have 3 full buckets awaiting smelting. I also currently have 900 lbs of pure lead bars I bought and 150 lbs of 60/40 solder that I use to harden them up a bit for my commercial BP bullets. I hope I never move again, at least not unless I win LOTTO. Then I will pay someone to move this stuff.

Keep at it, i think if you are creative and persistent you will succeed in finding lead. (Read: Obsessive/relentless)

My first lead score was in Dec 2006. Today my total inventory, all types from Wiljen's "plus" enrichment alloy to all the way to pure, is around 2500 lbs.

I found a very good source then kept knocking on doors til I found a second source as a backup. (The dead rat only had one hole to hide in.....)

When the thrill of the chase is over I'll know i have enough.

Lead collecting is not a sickness, it is good to have a lot in the barn for the bad years that will come, sooner or later. If you have a lot of moulds, what good is it to have them if you not can feed them, that is why I always try to get more ww or lead so I can get more moulds, I think I need to join Group Buy Anonymous soon.

I have something like 200 pounds of wheelweights either ready to smelt or smelted into ingots. Also 30 pounds of soft lead.

No, not anywhere NEAR enough.

I just had one of my ex student's father bring me 600 pounds of roofing lead. I paid him 50 cents a pound. That is what the local recyclers are paying so I wanted to be fair with him and to myself.

I told him to keep saving it and I would buy all he can get. After he finishes putting some shingles on where the last storm blew them off, I am going to see if he has any roofing friends who want to sell me lead also.

Sometimes it just pays to talk about casting and shooting cast boolits. While at the range yesterday, I was talking with a shooting friend about boolits I use for various calibers, etc. A guy that was shooting some pistols on the other end of the line came over and asked "you use wheel weight for your boolits?" I of course replied that I do. He says "I only use pure lead for my fishing sinkers, but I got a bunch of wheel weights, you want 'em?" So we traded phone numbers so we can meet up after he digs them out of his shop. Don't know how much he has, but even if its only a couple buckets, it's a good score.
