Anyone have any slow loads for a 145 grain 40 S&W or pointers to a source for data? I'm talking down around 800 fps if possible. I've got a Steel Challenge match coming up in a couple of months and need a load that is quick to reacquire the sight picture with. Only rules seems to be a velocity above 750 to minimize bounce back. If it does not cycle normal auto's that is fine as I can lower the recoil spring weight till it does. I'll be shooing limited class so I can tune the gun to the load.

Here is a good references:

I went with a light charge of WST myself with the Lee 175Gr TC bullet. Bulleseye will probally work well also. Start about 3.5 grs of either.

Guess your talking a pistol. I have figured out some sub loads, but won't do you any good. I am using a mech tech upper, with a 40 you get quite a boost in velocity with more barrel. 200gr isn't hard just run light loads. 180s I had to struggle to keep them slow enough and thats over 1000fps for me. Had to try several powders to get one that didn't go below min load and keep a 180 subsonic in mine. Even lighter bullets like a 145 would be alot of trouble if they would even work, stay subsonic AND cycle a weapon.

Right now I have Red Dot, Promo, Bullseye, and Unique. I've got the 175 gr mold but getting WST might be an issue.

One other problem is I've got no chrono yet so I kinda need to know the load is over 750.
