Has anyone gotten velocity readings from their BP or sub loads for 40-65 or 40-70SS?

Yeah, I know there isn't much point but I got a 40-70SS coming soon and was thinking about what to expect (or hope for).

I had a 40/70 barrel fitted to my CPA to use 405 Hornaday brass , and am shooting 77.5 grains of 1.5 Swiss and a 420 grain Money bullet from BACO. It reads 1430 fps 15 ft from the muzzle

Today I did some testing with the 400gr tapered Money bullet in my Shiloh. With 60.5gr of OE 1.5 it runs at an average of 1298 fps with a SD of 4.6.

Edit: I should also mention that my Shiloh is a .40-65 with a 30" barrel :-)

I'm gonna have to find me a Money bullet.

I've been shooting a 40-65 for close to 20 years but mostly smokeless. I just got a call from C.Sharps asking for the FFL where they're to ship my new 40-70SS highwall. I was wondering what numbers to plug in to figure sight settings for the initial outing. The info so far gives me an idea.

I'm looking forward to comparing the two cartridges real soon.

There is always a real good reason we just HAVE TO go shooting tomorrow.

So far I don't think that the Money bullet is any more accurate than my Saeco #740, but it should use about a minute or minute and a half less wind at 500m with a 3:00 10 mph wind. It does shoot a fair bit flatter and might hold vertical better at 500 in a head/tailwind, but the Saeco is quite a good bullet too.

Yesteday it the Money bullet used up about 3 -3.5 minutes in a guestimated 10 mph crosswind at 300 yards. With my limited wind reading skills it's probably difficult to tell apart from the Saeco bullet.

The one thing I like about the Money bullet over the Saeco in the Shiloh throat is that I can seat the money bullet with a lube groove at the case mouth which prevents leading. The Saeco needs to be seated all the way in the case and it will lead a little for me.

Looking at the list of money bullets on the BACO site is really opening a can of worms. There are way more than one or two just in the 400 and up weights. Some have narrow band(s) up front, some taper the bands, etc. No idea which are the most popular, but you can probably surmise the ones that're sold out would be the ones to buy.

My 40-65 groups improved quite a bit when the RCBS CSAs were seated out. That rifle has never had a tendency to lead. I'm hoping the 40-70 will benefit from the discoveries from the 40-65.

Litl Red 3991, the one linked in Chill Will's post on this thread is the one I am using right now. I know others have had good results with it. It seems to fit the Shiloh rifles quite well. I don't know about other rifles/chambers. I think this might be the one that TexasMac is using but I could be wrong. He has posted some nice 200 yard groups on the Shiloh forum.
