Luke 2:27 "And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,"

What is it that was done for Jesus by his parents? It was a custom of the law which they did. I need a little help with this.

Thanks guys & gals.

as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”[b (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%202&version=NIV#fen-NIV-24997b)]), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”[c (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%202&version=NIV#fen-NIV-24998c)]

Thank you. I was thinking the “a pair of doves or two young pigeons” were for Mary's purification? Are you saying the birds were for Him?

I ran this by you guys a couple years ago so I went back and read the thread. I believe all the first born children were to be redeemed because they belonged to The Lord. And again if memory serves the price of redemption was a half shekel?

Luke said: the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law. I was wondering if the visit that day was to pay the redemption cost? I'm sure His parents paid the cost as it was required by Law but I'm not sure it was at this time.

I thought that Mary was not allowed in the Temple until her purifying was completed on the 40th day for a male child. The birds were for her purifying I think.

Yes a period of time I thought was 30 days without looking it up. Like you I believe the birds were for her.

Joseph and Mary were going to the temple to "do what was customary to the law for" Christ . That day there had to be a sacrifice offered for Mary's purification, And that was done according to the law for Christ. In the Old Testament Under the Law which is what we are still under in "Luke" if the male child was'nt of the tribe of Levi a ransom had to be paid to the priest. They paid a ransom for the male child for priestly service.

Thanks Marine. Through the help here & more study time I believe you are correct. And to my friend from Lenore, WV, it was in fact 40 days.
