Did anyone try their luck at Rock Island Auctions this weekend?

I tried bidding on 12 rifles (mostly Shiloh Sharps and Ruger #1's) and got massacred. People were bidding huge numbers for everything I was interested in. The Ruger #1's were going for $1500 to $2500 each and the Shiloh Sharps all went for $3000+. No deals to be had this time.

The economy is good for someone.

I had a bid on one that was topped. Oh well I managed to live w/o it before and somehow I'll continue.

Listen to people at auctions when they talk, alot of them its not I got its I won the auction becomes a contest to them. You need to decide before hand what its actual value is what its worth to you then stick to that number. Around here a firearms auction most bring more than a new in the box of the same make model do. A few years ago seen an old 410 beak open single shot bring 250.00 at auction. Auctions are normally good for seller and auctioneer, not so much the buyers.

I was going to send them a antique shotgun to sell for me until I seen what the fees were.
For a regional auction all sellers pay 25 % of the sale price and buyers pay 15 to 17 1/2 %.
For them to take 40 % of what a gun sells for is beyond what I could live with. I will try selling on one of the other DIY online auctions even if it doesn't sell for as much. :brokenima
