I have been using WC872 now for a year or so....in 308, 7.62x54R and 303 Brit. I have been using a kicker of either Red Dot, or IMR4227 or Unique with the balance of a compressed load of WC872. This works very well, leaves NO unburned granules and is also VERY accurate with a Lee Cast boolit (185gr) at 100yds. I went up to 7gr of kicker but finally settled at 5gr as best. I still have 47lbs of WC872 to burn through yet! Thanks to all those who went before me and posted results. It has helped me immensely.

I learned about Duplex loading in my single shot Stevens 44 1/2 - .38-55. Paul Mathews discussed the concept in one of his great books. I don't remember the exact load now but it was incredibly accurate and burned all the holy black powder. These days I'm also using WC872 in my .338-06 with a Federal 215. Did not consider Duplex. You've given me something to consider. Thanx

I have a 338-06 also. What bullet(s) and charge weights are you using with WC872 ?

You are welcome Eddy. Just remember that any smokeless duplex loads MUST be compressed loads. I am so glad that this has worked out for me. It gives me fast, clean and very accurate RIFLE loads at around 5 cents each for powder! Amazing!

Charlie, Without having my notes in front of me, (I'm not at home) my shooting buddy has two Saco molds. One drops a sweet 240 gr. flat nose and the other drops a even sweeter 300 gr. round nose. 58 grs. Makes the 300 go about 2100. Quite accurate and a hell of a deer killer. I'm still working on a load for the 240. I have a feeling Duplexing is the answer .

I shoot WC872 duplexed with 5g of IMR 4198 as a kicker in my 35 Whelen. It shoot very clean and accurate with the Lyman 358315.

Eddy I have the Lee 240 flat point but also got in on a group buy here for a 300 gr spitzer. I have 16lbs on WC872 I got from Bartlett's, so am very interested in your experience.

Charlie,
In a way it's another example of the incredible utility of the parent 30-06 cartridge. I have a friend (the guy who owns the wonderful 338 molds) that shoots a .338-06 Improved. He and I have been using WC872 as well as WC867. So far we haven't seen much difference in the two surplus powders but it is too much fun working up loads. The standard we developed for determining what primer to use (standard or magnum) has been magnum after more than 60 grains of powder. That has seemed to work so far, however, I think it's time for Duplex.
