I was given an mouser rifle by my father in law. I am trying to figure out the year and where it was made.

not picture a clear English stamp, " Standard-model"

think it is a civilian mauser,

Hello. Made in Oberndorf, developed in 1924, info is unclear as they made them in viloation of the Versailles treaty. Produced in three cals, 7.9 , 7.65 & 7mm

I agree but you beat me to it. But some mice really are pretty big. My cat got one the other day that went 7 lbs. He had a helluva time getting it out the back door!

Actually I have seen a Mouser and there have been several discussed here . It is believed that they may have been knock-offs of the Siamese variant.

Usually they are called "Standard Modell" for the stamping it has on the side if the receiver. They were made prior to the introduction of the KAR98k, at the Obendorf Mauser factory in Germany, in the early and mid 1930's. They were supposedly non military, but almost all went to military clients, both in Germany and world wide.

They are quite collectible. Germany used some in WWII. So did Nationalist China.

it was my father in laws. most I may do to the gun is do a good cleaning. find some ammo for it and shoot it a little. not sure if it will go any further then that.

Your standard modell being in the B series is probably 1934 - or 1935ish. There was a banner K - turned down bolt and side sling like a 98k in that same time frame ( 1934 on ) . Is anything matching on your rifle ?. The Ss on the barrel step indicates barrel was regulated for Schweres-spitzgeschoss ( heavy pointed bullet - 196 grain Ss patronen ). You will only see this particular marking on standard modell barrels. . Gobs of these were sold as export... rarely a chinese used example can be found in decent shape....usually boat anchors if chinese used. If unmolested they are works of art...often though they have part interchange problems as mauser was doing a gob of hasnd fitting then to utilize everything they could in those lean years. I had a near new bolt mismatch standardmodell and went through 5 standard modell bolts and all were way too tight on headspace. Eventually found a gew98 postwar rebuild blued bolt that headspaced properly for it.
Your receiver may have been refinished - hard to tell from the dark pics...but the number '8' stamped on the receiver did not happen at the factory or in german use.
