Good Looking handy rifle. But then again since I also have a Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 Government I have found that they are darn hard to beat as a mid range hunting rifle. They are very handy and accurate and will probably take anything down in the lower 48 or maybe even the world. Ok the world is a bit much but I do have a good deal of confidence in the Marlin chambered in the old 45-70 Government cartridge. :)

If it can't be killed with a 45/70, I'm not going to that part of the world. lol

I love my 1895GS.

HOWEVER, that buttstock looks, um......painful.

Depending on the load it could prove to be very painful lol.

Limb Saver does make a direct bolt on recoil pad for the Marlin that works GREAT. :)

I bought a duplicate to your rifle in 1974, but it still has its original barrel length. I gave it to my brother who used it to shoot everything from coyotes to Elk in Wyoming. He handed it down to his son who still knocks four legged animals down with it. Great rifles and good cast boolit shooters without any special technique for loading them.

I don't mind the recoil. It just feels like a push and not so muck like a kick. Almost think my 44 mag 1894 is sharper. I am a real sucker for the Marlin stuff

Just Curious is all. Did shortening its barrel make it less accurate or decrease its effective range? I've heard some rifles don't take kindly to their purposely shortened barrels. Although yours looks very nicely done.

PTT: you're just not loading it heavy enough. That stock you knock the poo out of you with the tight loads. I suggest a large recoil pad.

PS the .45-70 has already killed everything on this planet, with the possible exception of some of the rarer species of Whales, Giant Squid and Whale Sharks. All the land mammals have been taken and probably before 1900.

Even with that 16.5" bbl a Belt Mountain Punch Solid will go clean thru an Elephant in any direction.

I have owned ig a couple years but it was shortened in the early 1980s. I have shot the remington 405s and the Hornady Leverevolution thru it. They were t bad at all

Anything in the world is 100% correct the selection of bullets loaded to the Marlins potential will take them all down including elephant or the big bears. Nice gun. I like the compact version8-)

Yep, something about them. It starts as an itch, then the scratching, then fever, then a lighter wallet followed by a lot of smiling. The disease has been identified and has been named- MARLINITIS! I was diagnosed a little over three decades ago, it stays in remission for a varying period of time. Then all of a sudden a very fast onset of fever, lighter wallet and it goes away again. It's been tough, but I'm dealing with it.

If it's walking the face of the earth today I'm willing to bet someone has killed it with a 45-70.

Though I am a big fan of the .45-70, I am sure this could be said about the .22 rimfire as well.

I have an Marlin 1895 bought in 72 .It has been my favorite hunting rifle for many year..
The main thing important here is will it shoot cast bullets.
I have had good luck with the RCBS 300 and 405 molds.
I have a new mold from Accurate. It is a 360 gr GC .
I will cast some bullets soon and try them in my Marlin and my 86 wins.
I have also had good luck with the Saeco 350GC bullet.
I will do my best to cast with the new mold soon..Just been very busy with other responsibilities.

Have a newer version Marlin Guide Gun 45-70
despite some claims of less than adequate QC I find my gun to be a fine piece
shoots very accurately and is easy to carry and bring to bear
+1
