Neat. Most of the VZs i have seen were not fit for fence posts. Looks like a keeper.
be safe

had bad luck with a VZ a while back - ended up with lots of setback and cracked lugs - good learning experience tho - yours looks in much better shape - good luck and have fun

Mine is all original and shoots great. I bought it for the action, but ran the serial numbers and found out it was probably used in the battle of Stalingrad. Changed my mind about cutting it up so I found just an action to build.

The stock is numbered to the rifle, but the bolt is not. My brother had bought this rifle maybe 10 years ago or so from Big5 Sporting Goods for $89. The stock is actually not a bad piece of Elm. Oh, it has it's dings and dents, most of which would steam out, but no missing wood or splits. It must be dense as the rifle weighs a ton!

So when we were over for a visit once he decided it needed to come live with me. Probably had something to do with the fact that if you looked down the barrel you could see where it might have been rifled at some time in it's past :-) So after it hung around at my place for awhile I finally decided what to do with it. I ordered a military contour stepped replacement barrel for it chambered .308.

To end this happy tale I can say that it still weighs a bunch, but now it shoots like a house afire. And that's a good thing! :-8
