I'm curious what I might expect for barrel life on cast bullets.

probably will not wear it out in your lifetime

Figure 3-4 times longer than jacketed bullets. Probably more.

2 answer to this. If you are talking non-gc non-superhard boolits at normal to low velocities. Yeah you won't see the end of that barrel. If you are talking gcs and or superhards pushed at high veolcity. Still more barrel life than jacketed.

Probably around 12,000 to 14,000 through each of my and my wife's 1894C's since we've been shooting SASS. There are no signs of barrel wear at all, but we've had to replace a couple of extractors and ejectors, plus a couple of lightened hammer springs. The moving parts wear our before the barrel does, probably because they've had action jobs, and are silky smooth. With either rifle, you can lever the rounds with your fingertips.......

Hope this helps.

I'm creeping up on 5k. I don't think I will ever wear the barrel out. At least half of the rounds have been close to max loads of H110. Never used a gas check because they aren't needed.

I've got about 1500-2000 through my 45 Colt cowboy, mostly with RCBS 45-270-SAA and HS-6 at a "level 2" load as well as a good bit of 255 RNFP with TrailBoss. Looks brand new.

Good information. I'm up around 6,000 rounds through mine, and since the 357 1894Cs are hard to replace, I was concerned about maybe needing to restrict my shooting. Based on the above, it doesn't sound like I need to worry about it.

Thanks,

How about about 79,000 rounds through a SBH? Heavy loads, no wear and the groove still slugs at .430". Years of jacketed and many, many years of water dropped WW boolits.
Cleaning rods and rust will do more damage then shooting ever will.

I agree, neglect and poor cleaning practices do much more damage. My highest miler has maybe 40,000 rounds through it, and looks better than when I got it. I rarely shoot light loads, lubed lead boolits just don't create much wear. Have fun wearing it out :)

Just a note that some of you may want to try on the cleaning rods.I use heat shrink tubing on my cleaning rods, put a little more .protectin between the rod and bore

That is a great idea! Thanks for the tip, it sure beats electrical tape.
