Loading anything but a flatpoint boolit in a tubular magazine will get all sorts of negative reactions around here. I'm sorry but I guess no one wants to beat that dead horse anymore.
My suggestion: open up a box of factory RP 30-30 ammo and make your own decision.

Call Swede and ask him. He can probably tell you if it will work or not.

reason i ask is the hornady reloading manual third edition shows a hornady 350 gr. round nose #4502 for a loading specifically for the 45/70-1895 marlin on page 301 so i was wondering ?

I shot alot of the Hornady 350 rn in my guide gun. never a problem. hard to find anymore though.

The factory "J" words have a very SOFT core and tip. Duplicate that in your casting and you should be safe.

For what it's worth, I have shot a great many 457-124's out of my marlin CB without incident. My view is that blunt round nose boolits at low to medium velocities are as safe as anything else. The pointy nosed RN boolits, maybe not so much, especially if launched at .450 magnum levels. The safety Nazis may disagree, but their opinion is not consistent with my experience.
If you are really concerned, run the boolit through the sizer with a flat nosed punch and make a flat on the tip.

...run the boolit through the sizer with a flat nosed punch and make a flat on the tip.

This. ^^

Also, for what it's worth; thousands of people have been using the Lyman 311291 in their lever action 30-30s for many decades with no problems, and it has a very similar nose shape. It was designed for the 30-30, which is fairly synonymous with lever action, tube magazine. Add the flat punch during sizing and you've got an extra layer of protection.

I use the 311291 cast in #2 alloy, with full power 30-30 loads (2,000 fps from a 16" barrel) and I haven't blown myself up yet. I've been using a custom, form fit top punch too, so it maintains the round nose shape. But then of course; "It never happens until it happens" (a little requisite caveat there).

Reloading is more risky than using factory ammo too, and we do that anyway, don't we. So yeah; flat top punch, and I wouldn't bat an eye.

Frankly I'm more worried about using powder charges that can be inadvertently doubled and still fit in the case easily, and that's a fairly common possibility with castboolit loads.
