View Full Version : Roll crimp options?

Hey guys.

The gun I just bough appears to be very picky on the sort of shells I feed it. So far only the ngton and Fiocchi factory slugs feed reliably 8n it. My feeling is that it likes a roll crimp with a wider radius.

I believe there are a couple of options to roll crimp.

Which one would provide the largest radius on the roll crimp?

Or if I end up having to use the star crimp, which method makes the nicest radius on the fold edge?

I'll be buying the Lee Load-all II today and I am aware it does fold crimp buy not rolled crimp.

So I'll need a different method for the crimp. Any suggestions?

Buy a roll crimped from BPI. Works great.

This shell was roll crimped with a C&P T2 crimper and then passed into the rcbs taper crimp die in the mini grand press.136959
It will reliably cycle in a Vepr Molot shotgun with no mulfanctions.

That is really slick---looks like it would feed in any gun, every time. Is the hull re-useable after that, or does the plastic get molded too much by that crimp?

I use this one also I got the tool for all the ga's I have.I seen some where that someone posted is to pre heat the die just for about 30sec. before you use it that way it is a little warm for the hull to roll easyer and found that it is easyer that way.but do not let it get over heated.

FullTang,
No the hull is not used more than one time (I buy them new) not because the specific crimp type but because of the not satisfactory formed second or third crimp, whatever type of roll crimp used in the first place. The Hull in the photo is a Cheddite 3".
