Two older guys came in the shop this morning looking at guns. They started talking about my mounts on the wall and one of them mentioned my water buffalo and how they were used in Vietnam and that they didn't seem to like GI's. I mentioned that was probably because of all the guys that shot them when they were there. Almost every guy that mentions an encounter with one to me says he shot it or shot at it. He laughed and said he would have wanted an M60 and not an M16 to shoot one and I said or maybe an M79. He says "That's what I carried, an M79". I said excuse me a minute and walked in the back. I walked back out front and asked when was the last time you saw a M79? He says "1969 46 years ago" I said well now you can't say that anymore and handed him my M79. You should have seen his face light up. He was tickled to death to get to handle one again after so many years.

That's very cool. If I ever get down to FL. I'm going to have to look you up Tim. I'd love to see that M79, I saw one once down at FT. Sill on display.

If the bumper marking on the front bumper is his old unit (2/505 Parachute Inf, 82d ABN) he served in a one of our most battle hardened combat regiments.

Wow!!! Clean truck. I would feel dirty even climbing into that one. Looks like it just came from the car show.

I had an opportunity to shoot the M-79 once, at a range. Bouncing a 55 gal barrel from 300 yds out was fun. However, if I had had to go on a combat mission, I would have been running an M-60, since I was a crewchief on an Huey at that time. Never got to fire the 50 cal. mg

I had an E8 when I was in 10th Mtn that carried a bloop tube in vietnam. He had said he got to where he could drop one in a 55 gallon drum laid open ended at up to 300 yards regularly. When I got out of active and went nasty guard we had a brace of them in the Armory and only got to sneak them to the range one time when we were going to the 203 range on Dix.

Loved the M79, never liked the m16/grenade launcher combo.

The only time I fired an M79 was in basic at Ft. Polk. No instruction or anything, just handed it to me and gave me a live round and said shoot it. I was first up and the size of the round and the light weight of the piece made me think I was going to get my arm knocked off. The "ploop" was a hoot.
