I completed my smelting project. My neighbor gave me 125 pounds of lead pipe, which is almost pure lead. I purchased 6- 5 pound ingots of 70-30 (70% lead 30% antimony) and three pounds of pure tin. Now I have 150 pounds of 92-6-2 lead alloy That is the first picture all done.

I also have a bunch of range scrap. Some already in ingots ( second picture) and some still need smelting. (third picture)

Things I learned:

A propane stove is a piss poor heat source. Way too much wasted heat. I need to get my gas firepot working. Or I could make a metal ring for around the burner to focus the heat straight up and shield it from the wind. It's ok when the wind is not blowing, but wind seems to blow the heat away.

Hardball alloy rings. As i tossed it into the box I could hear some of the ingots ring.

The wind screen make a world of difference. Even more in warm weather when you personally cant stand the extra heat.

Finished up five ,five-gallon buckets of wheel weights last week! By the time i got through, 300 lbs (plus or minus) of 85.38/2.5/6.87/2.57 CU Was piled in a pile in the loading room, waitng for me to cast more boolits! I might live long enough! Kinda high on SN, but the Babbitt I mixed in the alloy was free, soooo! I cut back on the SN, however for next batch. Copper makes a TOUGH boolit!! Fired some 30 cals at 2500 fps with no problems! Glad you got some lead for free! Scrounge, my fellow casters, you can find it!! Good luck to you.
