Just received a m1 garand and I have done munch reading about cast loads. Universal recommendation appear to be imr or hodgdon 4895. As many have experienced powder is pretty spotty. Accurate has 2495 available and is "supposed" to be the same.

Have those that have used both found it to be good for reduced cast and standard j bullets?

Is accurate's version super short cut like their 4064(meters great) or is longer cut powder that is going to bridge in my Dillon measure?

Should I stick with their 4064 for full power loads?

2495 and the sierra 52gr match bullets is super accurate in my ruger varmint rifle.

anyway it meters similar to imr-4895 [a bit better actually] but is a little faster in burn rate in many cases.
it would make a good reduced load powder in stuff like the 308 etc..

I would compare it to h335 but close to 4895 as well

The important thing for the M1 is to avoid slow burning powders like IMR4350. IMR4350 makes great 30-06 hunting loads, but the extended pressure curve will bend the operating rod on the M1. Therefore, although wonderful in a bolt action rifle, it is not suitable for the M1 Garand.

Though Accurate lists AA2495 data for cartridges up to the 308 Winchester, they skip right over the 30-06, but do list AA2495 for the 8mm-06. I don't know why they omit the 30-06. Although I would probably work up loads for myself if I had a ready supply of AA2495, I cannot recommend it for someone else.

I tried this powder about the time it came out, probably more than twenty years ago. I don't recall using it with cast bullets, but with jacketed bullets in at least a couple of rifle chamberings, results and velocities were roughly similar to the 4895s. Since market introduction, I would guess there have been at least slight changes in the burning rate, etc. and it may have been produced by different manufacturers over the years. However, results might remain similar to the 4895s.

I remember it had the BR designation back then.
I still have a partial can marked that way.

I personally think it's a little more in line with 3031 than 4895 but as with all powders the burn rate can flip-flop around on the scale depending on bullet weight and case size.

anyway according to accurate it's the stick powder equivalent to AA's 2520, and is close/similar to the 4895's in burn rate.

firebrick43,
Just e-mail Western Powders with your question and they will give you some load data..
I have e-mailed them for load data for their RamShot powders and they have been very helpful..
