Would a 1.6" .414 SuperMag case SuperMag case provide enough volume for FFg and a 215gr SWC to reach somewhere in the 900-1300 fps range from a 23" barrel?
I know the .401 Winchester Self Loading (41 caliber straight case that is 1.5" long) was a smokeless round from the get-go. 200 grain J bullet and a 250 grain loads were available. The .401 is close to being a rimless version of the .414 SuperMag (.401 is 1.5" long, .414 is 1.610" long). Perhaps someone has tinkered with this before...
NOTE: To the rabid black powder shooters that are intimately familiar with the case volume to bullet weight to bullet diameter permutations, I haven't dropped hammer on a percussion cap or a BP cartridge in probably ten (or more) years. Do not try to assign any deep meaning or hidden machinations to my question. Can I burn black powder in the 414 SM and have a decent fun gun, or must I use smokeless?
