I bought a baggie with some odd rounds today. One was and old 30-06 military round with a label that stated it to be a 5 ring guard FA 6 06. The head stamp does say FA and 6 06, it is segmented with the marks between the F and the A and between the 6 and the 06. There are 5 rings on the shell body. Does anyone have any info.ThanksDave

Scroll to the section about guard and gallery rounds. Neat find but not really all that rare.

Without looking at the site, I think that is a Frankfurt arsenal round from
June of 1906, very early.

I know a site can't have everything but it would be nice to have a forum on here specifically for identifying and or showing off old cartridges - even if they all didn't have "cast boolits". I used to have a small collection when I was a kid but put them all in an auction a few years back - can't keep everything. I enjoy seeing old boolits and cartridges - especially the early ones with copper casings.

Sounds like you got a nice early round - congrats!
