I have always lusted after a nice Browning Hi-Power but until recently I have never owned one. I just picked up a nice c series and and broken T series that I will repair, I have limited 9mm cast boolit experience but I did find a nice site site to start from.

Mine is happy with both Lee 105 SWC and Lee 356 120 TC.

My brother has a HP, any suggestions for loads? He and I are rather familiar with the 45 ACP but not so much with the 9mm.

Five grains of Unique with either the RCBS 125 RN or the Lyman 120 TC, is what I feed my HP. If Unique is unavailable, 4.0 grains of Bullseye. AA#7 gave good results, but I can't recall the load.

MK3 BHP here and it eats Lee 120gr. .358 over 3.5-4gr. Bullseye exclusively.

I have one carry it every day. it is a old military surplus. shoots good as long as I use 124 gr. bullets. I have the rcbs 124 gr. tc mold it eats them without any problems.

I did find out that I have to use the upper end loads in the books. 9mm is under loaded in this country.

I've had 3, the first did well, the others did not( a 9 and a 40). Left 'ribbons' of lead in the barrel after firing. Unsure as to the cause, didn't spend much time with lead in them after that.

Lyman 358242 (120) sized .358 over Blue Dot 6.0 gr. is a winner in my BHP. The Lyman 356242 (90) sized .358 over Promo 4.0 gr is another excellent load.

Anybody know what the groove diameter on the current Browning commercial version tends to be?

I bought a used one years ago, It has had nothing but cast since I bought it. zero problems with any load I have tried.

I have had several Hi-Powers over the years and they are elegant and accurate handguns. I have found that Euro-9s tend to run larger in the barrel grooves than US-9s. My Browning is .357 and I shoot 125 cast bullets from an NEI mold sized .358.

I favor powder charges of 3.5/Bulleye 5/Unique or 5.7/AA5. Like most autopistol rounds the proper seating depth and a taper crimp are essential. 9mm case lengths tend to be all over the place. Best accuracy will be had with cases of the same length.

For you High Power nuts. I bought six surplus M-9 Beretta mags several years ago on Swappin' and Sellin" because I was told they were adaptable to the High Power. TRUE! Measure against a real HP mag and drill a hole where the mag catch slot is on the HP. Slightly elongate with a needle file and they work perfectly. Load 14 rounds in the mag (load 15 and they won't feed in my guns). The only drawback is they protrude about 3/4" below the grip but I got use to that. Function flawlessly in my HPs. Gives you high capacity at a reasonable cost./beagle
