They have everything in stock that no one else has but their prices are utterly ridiculous. I am pretty sure that at those prices they will never run out of anything.

I saw those prices at the Harrisburg Gun show last month. The only one cheaper was saying you had to buy other components from them to help them above the break even point.

Those "high prices" are looking like the new normal here! Looked to one of the usual online suppliers in western Canada and noticed he had H110 in stock? Last fall's price before tax was $26.00 the "new stock" price is $46.00. Guess it comes down to do you want to shoot them or just look at them. I suppose eventually they will make some awfully fancy paperweights!

Can you buy powder from US distributors or do you have to buy from Canadian ones. Here is a link down here for Longshot. They have had it for a while.

Well you can always come to Ak, most of those powders are no more than 2 to 3 dollars a pound more than what we been paying (when available) since Ohummer and Hillary started fussing over who got to stay in the whitehouse. Their unique prises was way out of line even for here though, but then again, it has probably been 2 years or more since I have even seen any.

prices here in Tucson are bad, but not that bad. depends on what you need and how bad you need it. I met some dude at the range the other day who told me he paid $120 for two pounds of reloader 33 (included the hazmat). I told him he was crazy, but if you need it, you need it, I guess.

Their price on a pound of Bulls Eye is about $12 more than what I paid at the LGS this past summer (August). Yea, I know . . . a lot of folks wished their LGS had it on the shelf but if the LGS was asking what this place is, they'd get a whole lot of "b _ _ ching" from their "regulars". It may be MSRP but it also reminds me of the 22 ammo gouging. Just my 2 cents worth though which isn't worth a plug nickel . . . LOL

I purchased 1# of Herco and 1# of Blue Dot and put these together with 1000 berdan (7.62x39) primers. With shipping and has mat it was pricey but I now have 3 items I could not get locally for some time.

Used an online supplier - lohmanarms.com

They have 1, 4 and 8 pounders available on lots of powder.

The prices listed (for a single pound of powder) are within a dollar or two of what we pay here in Flagstaff less hazmat and shipping. Of course any time you buy anything from a store or shop you are paying those fees (hazmatt and shipping) it is a cost of doing business.

I find it facinating that the people who gripe the most about prices are the ones who price their own products and or services the highest. I learned a long time ago that if you find someone who worries constantly about being taken or cheated be careful, they are the person most likely to try to cheat you.

That site will only let you buy one pound of any powder for $30-40 ea.. Then they add $43.00 for shipping!

The prices aren't the issue, it is the fact that you can'y buy in volume to offset the Shipping/Hazmat fees.

What a ripoff.

Its good business for the powder companies to keep the supply short and the demand high. I wish they would quit making these new expensive powders and just give us consumers what we want.(bullseye, unique, red dot, blue dot etc.)

No, it's not good business to do that. They want to sell as much product as possible. High demand is a good thing. Short supply hurts their profit. You can thank environmental regulations for the higher price of newer powders. But at the same time you can thank the retailers for the higher prices in general. The wholesale cost hasn't increased that much.

The hazmat fee is not such a big factor if you can buy enough to spread it around. Problem is if you want a popular powder you have to complete the purchase before that powder sells out. Leaving no time to put a more comprehensive order together. Assuming that the store had another powder you needed in the sparse stock available. If one purchases 4# the hazmat adds $7 a lb. to the price. If there where 2 or 3 powders available that drops the hazmat down to $4.50 a lb. which is not so bad.

Good luck finding 2 or 3 powders that are desirable and stay in stock long enough for you to order.

Some of those prices are almost double, but then again some of them are not. Yeah, they're high-priced, but powder is the cheapest component anyway, so even doubling the price doesn't impact the total loaded cartridge cost that much. If I was hurting for powder, I might buy from this site. They seem to have A LOT of in-stock powders that I'm not seeing anywhere else. I, too, will pass, but this might be a god-send for someone who's just getting into reloading. I certainly won't bad-mouth them.

Back in December BassPro had their powder at $24.99/lb. I bought 8 lb of Bullseye at that price and had it shipped to a local store. No hazmat and no shipping, just sales tax.
They sold out very quickly even though they had a lot of it. I think it took them 2 days to sell out. This last shipment they got in is much higher priced.
I guess I got lucky with the timing on my purchase.

Stanford,

Thank you for the link to Reloading Unlimited! I just yesterday picked up an 8 lb jug of TiteGroup and was feeling a little guilty about paying just a taste over $21 per pound for it. I now know that had I purchased the same 8 lbs from R.U. they would have gouged me, inclusive of shipping and the much hated Haz-Mat tax just shy of $32 per pound! I saved enough to buy a thousand of my favorite 38 special plinker boolets!!!

Just a reality math check.

Unique cost in the not so far past.....$118/8#.
5600- 10 grain loads at....................$0.021/round.

Unique cost + hazmat.......................$300/8#
5600-10 grain loads at......................$0.053 round

Primer @ $0.030/round.
Bullet @ $0.20/round.

308 PMC 147 FMJ shipped @ $0.72/round.

Powder is a trivial cost at any price.

Seems to be within a couple bucks per pound price as the LGS. A couple better, a few worse. He has more than I've seen in a while.

It's the new normal, just like $15 a brick 22 ammo is no longer there. Gotta get used to it.

Shipping and insurance charges to folks selling product has gone up. When black powder required a big change in storage regs it became extinct around here. I think only 2 places carried it in the state.

You guys realize that we've been having inflation sneak up on us this last decade, right?

You can't print trillions of dollars and not devalue the money in circulation! If the price is a "little" high, not ridiculous, buy it and go shooting. Some commodities adjust to inflation at a much faster clip than others. Anything you use in your life is a commodity, whether it be frozen OJ, pork, or gunpowder!

It's not going to go down in price to what it was 5 or 10 years ago.

Might be a good idea to start looking ahead to the future and start stocking other things you see yourself using in the next decade or so while the current prices are low.

8 # ofHS-335 there is $30 less than local but then I do not have to pay Haz Mat or shipping so local is really less expensive, HS-6 is higher than local.

What goes up , must come down does not really apply to gun powder.primers or .22 Ammo. Anyone remember the Cliton years and now his wife wants a turn at our guns and the nation's economy?

It's the law of supply and demand. If no one buys at those prices, eventually they lower prices or go out of business. High demand means they can get high prices. I'm not that desperate. I went into a LGS a few weeks back. They had a few 1lb rifle powders in stock for $35-40. I haven't been back.

If you are willing to wait, you can get better prices. I got lucky and caught Brownells with Unique in stock two weeks ago and bought some for $19/lb. It must have gone really fast. I ordered 5 lbs, but they are only shipping 3. The other powders I bought were $24 and $25/lb. Winchester primers were $30/K. Most on-line places let you sign up for e-mails telling you when an out-of-stock item arrives.

What I don't understand is when some take it personally. Apparently one place has powder that others want. Either buy it or don't. There is no room for whining. As soon as I read terms like "gouging" and "scalping" I'm done reading that person's thesis. He or she is a fool, AFAIC. Now if the guy with the powder forced customers at gun point to buy it, OK, now THAT is illegal.

I think "gun guys" are so used to buying stuff a lot cheaper than it should be, because it's liquidated by a government that originally created the materiel using slave labor and/or purchased with money raised by gross taxation. Well, the cheap stuff dried up. Whoda thunk?

I just get so tired of the belly-aching.

They have everything in stock that no one else has but their prices are utterly ridiculous. I am pretty sure that at those prices they will never run out of anything.

Yeah, I suppose. People want stuff cheap, to then put on GunBroker to give the bone to someone else. I've got craploads of 22. Used to buy a few bricks a week from WalMart when they were $8.47 for the 550rd Remington Golden Bullet. I've thought about selling some off, but if I give person X a good deal, he'll just sell to person Y at the same price that the "gougers" are selling at.

Not going to contribute to the madness, so not selling a dog-gone thing :D

Or donate to the scouts? I heard a while back they had to stop some programs because of supply. I never really bought 22 otherwise I would of had a cache to give to the local kids.
