I can't tell you how well it's working - I haven't had time to get to the range with it. I have 2 Steyr M95's that I've never fired (had both of them for years). I finally got around to making some ammo. I slugged the bore and got .315x.333". I read everything I could on loading for it and decided to go with a .334" boolit. I used the Lee C338-220-1R - cast of water quenched ww they drop at .338. I sized and checked them to .338" in a Lyman 450 lubed with Tac1. Then ran them through a .334" push through die that Buckshot made for me (they ended up at .3345"). I reduced the diameter of a expander made for .338 bullets to .3315" to get neck tension where I wanted it - case mouth flared with a Lee universal die. I have 30 rds. loaded in Prvi brass with 16 gr. of 2400 and a cci 200 primer. Can't wait to shoot 'em.

Hugely oversized groove diam. I think the concensus is to use a .338 Lee
and size it down a touch. Similar problem to Carcano, oversized and non-std
groove diam, need the next caliber up mold and size down a bit.

I have had good results with the Lee 205gn 8x56R Hungarian bullet, gas checked to .329 in my M95 Steyr stutzen.

I think you probably mean the 8x56R Hungarian round. I believe the original 8x50R Austro-Hungarian one uses ordinary .323in. bullets.

NEI have a .330in. 245gr. round-nosed gas-check mould, which I used for the 8x60R Portuguese round. It should be fine for the Hungarian rifle. The rifle being marked Budapest or Steyr doesn't tell you which it is chambered for, as some of both were converted, but some of both weren't.

M1895 Steyr S is what we are talking about. AustroHungarian WWI rifle cut down to carbine and rechambered in the early '30's. I have one of the original Oldfellar Frankenstein molds. I have a Steyr that I just mounted a scout scope on and have to take it to sight it in. I'm loading a combination load of 3gr 3031 and 55.5 gr WC867 that gives me 2300fps. With a red dot sight I was getting five inch groups at 100yds, but the dot was that large. I hope to see if that can be made smaller with the scope.

I am finally casting with the NOE Frankenstein bullet. It is designed specially for the 8x56R and fills up the throat better than the normal looking bullets do. You can see in the pics below how far out I load them so they fill up the throat.

I have completed the first loading/shooting with them using mainly faster burning powders. I am also finding the iron sights more challenging than I thought I would. Just shooting at 50 yds to try and get an idea of accuracy potential and getting 2-3 in groups. Going to try some slower burning rifle powders to see if that changes anything. You can see the 16 grs. of 2400 load and 13 grs. of Red Dot load, both 5 shot groups. Need to adjust the front blade for windage and decide on the rear sight setting.
