I've done the "search" and come up with much information but need a bit of "counseling" on bullet specs...

First as much as I'd like to I can't cast...physical issues...doc's orders..however I do load as much cast as possible...been using Missouri "cowboy" (12 hardness) in 45 Colt, 44 special and in 38 special...get along great...now I'm interested in shooting cast in my 1917 Eddystone Enfield...we have a caster in my area (Redline) that has a 165 cast with the red "crayola" lube or with a poly coat (users pick of the 20 hardness with red lube or the poly)...price is $45 per 500 and I can just pick them up. The bullet is a 165 grain flat nose (this is the only 30 cal bullet he has now)...I'd guess it's probably for sometinhg more like a 30-30 but can't see any reason I can't load 16 grains of 2400 as a starting point and just punch holes in paper...I'm trying to post a picture of the bullet...I don't have the mold # or information...just curious if this design should be a reasonable projectile for an 06 Enfield with the 2400 and if the poly coat or the plain would much matter.....thanks

That boolit doesn't appear to have a gas check on it. You do not want to push a plain base uncoated boolit above about 1,400fps. For coated your rifle will determine how fast you can push them, accuracy will go down hill before you get leading normally with coated if the fit is correct.

Your Enfield (Like mine) may have a groove . .310.5 -.311 if has original 5 grove barrel. Some rebarreled with 2 or 4 groove in WWII (Home guard etc.) I use a clone 314299 .314 cast sized to .313 and gaschecked 2400 powder works well Military cast Harris (http://home.comcast.net/~gavinsw/guns/castbulletmilitaryrifle.pdf)

I'd slug that barrel first to see what dia you'd need then go from there.

Especially if you are going to get 500 at a time.

Since you can get the bullets locally, I'd just buy a sampling of both and see what the rifle likes. I've purchased 25ct sample packs several times from various manufacturers to try their bullets out.

i'll bet the nose is undersized.

I'd keep the speeds down more in the 1200 fps area.
that boolit was designed to be used in cowboy shoots in a 30-30 [where no gas check is allowed] and the distances are short.
unfortunately it was designed by mold makers and not shooters.
7-8 grs of unique or whatever should be about right.

For low vel. you may be okay but if you want to beef it up and get the benefit of better trajectory, etc. Go with the Lyman 311041 which looks similar but is gas check design.

Except for a lack of gas check and a bit of bevel base, this may cause some rifles not to "like" it, but you wont know untill you try them out. Try the coated boolits first.
I always start out with gas checked designs because they are easier to get to shoot acceptably in rifles, plain based require a little more trial and error to get right. The coated might be just the ticket!
